Smith is the owner of a local family business, Cannon Beach Electric. The lieutenant has been in Cannon Beach since his childhood, he even attended the old elementary school in town and graduated from Seaside High School. He completed an electrical apprenticeship and then became a volunteer for the department.

Smith has been with the department since 2006 and is continuously working to enhance his leadership and his company's skills within the fire service.

Smith enjoys the Star Wars series and loves to play basketball and go fishing on his free time.

Fire Certifications: Fire Officer 2, Instructor 1, FFT2, AO -Pump, AO -Aerial, and Hazardous -Material Operations.
