Matthew A. Benedict

Chief is a hard person to sum up in only a handful of lines, as his certifications alone would take up more than a page.

He attended Portland Community College for his associates degree in Fire Protection Technology, Eastern Oregon University for a bachelor degree in Fire Service Administration and a minor in Business, and is thinking of going back to EOU to get a second bachelor degree in Emergency Medical Service Administration.

He's only been with the department for a year, but has already made a great impact on the community from behind the scenes.

Chief first joined the fire services 28 years ago, he's had the opportunity to work for Hoodland Fire District, Clark County Fire District #11 in Battle Ground, Washington, Pendleton Fire and Ambulance, Helix Fire District, and East Umatilla County Health District.

A chief has many tasks and situations that need attention to, but even with all of that on his shoulders, our Chief is commonly seen with a smile on his face. His favorite movie is the Goonies and his favorite book is Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. His favorite off time hobby is traveling and possibly adopting rescue dogs as he has three lovely dogs.
